Tradewinds Foundation has been providing a "Voyage of Hope and Discovery" for individuals with special needs for over seven years through boating opportunities and marine related educational programs. New tax legislation contained in the Jobs Creation Act of 2004, is forcing Tradewinds to change course in the way it has successfully raised its funds.

For the past seven years, Tradewinds has opened the waterways and marine life to individuals who may not otherwise have had the opportunity - from those confined to wheelchairs who sail for the first time, to those who live within a mile radius of the beach and have never seen or been on the ocean. Tradewinds has raised all of its funds through yacht "Bargain Sale Donations," which after January 1, 2005, new tax legislation no longer makes this a viable option.

Tradewinds is responding, not giving up! All those within the organization have been dedicated to their mission and are continuing to find ways to allow them to carry on. Tradewinds' staff is working on raising funds to assist the organization through this time of transition and restructuring. Repeal or modification of the law is also being pursued.
