The launch of Chamberlain Conboy International
1/11/2008
Thom Conboy of Conboy Yachts and Kent Chamberlain of Chamberlain Yachts announce the launch of their new company, Chamberlain Conboy International. Specializing in new construction, boat brokerage, yacht management and charter, their newly expanded offices are located in the Quay at 1535 SE 17th Street in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Thom Conboy has over twenty-five years of experience in construction, repair, and refit of vessels from fifty to over three hundred feet. In the eighties Conboy built yachts at Derecktor Shipyard. He later started Intermarine Shipyard in Savannah, Georgia, which had three additional facilities in Italy. He quickly developed Intermarine Savannah into the largest shipyard of its type in North America, and serviced some of the world’s biggest boats. After selling the facility in 2003, Conboy took over representation of Heesen Yachts and is responsible for catapulting the yard to the most successful period of its thirty-year history.
With twenty-eight years of yacht sales experience, Kent Chamberlain spent fifteen of those as an owner, or in management positions. In California, Chamberlain owned San Diego Yacht Sales and Pacific Coast Yachts. He moved to Ft. Lauderdale twelve years ago and became General Manager of Merle Wood & Associates and later Bradford Yacht Sales. He was also Vice President of the Florida-based builder, Westship just before starting Chamberlain Yachts in 2003. He is founder and Chairman of the Superyacht Network: a private group of elite mega yacht brokers who meet monthly to share market information.
These two industry leaders with their support staff of assistants, charter brokers, management personnel, and an in-house concierge, are focused on the super yacht market. The firm specializes in yachts from one hundred to three hundred feet in length. This merger brings together Conboy’s knowledge of new construction and Chamberlain’s brokerage background in order to better serve their mutual clientele in both the U.S. and abroad.
