| Pursuit traces its roots back to 1955 when Leon Slikkers left his job at the Chris Craft plant in Holland, Michigan, and began the Slickcraft Boat Co. Starting with small wooden runabouts, by 1961 Slikkers had switched to fiberglass construction. In 1964 he introduced the SS235, a trailerable cuddy that turned out to be Slickcraft’s most popular model. The company was sold to the AMF Corp. in 1969, and Slikkers stayed on as president until 1973 when he resigned. The following year he founded S2 Yachts and began building a line of cruising and racing sailboats. The Pursuit series of fishing boats followed in 1977, and in 1979 the first of the very successful Tiara series was introduced. The 1980s was an era of steady growth for Pursuit, and the company boasted an expanding line of high-quality center-console, walkaround, and express fishing boats. Built in Ft. Pierce, Florida, Pursuit is an industry leader in innovative fishing boat design and manufacturing excellence. |
