Description

The first wooden Grand Banks trawlers were built in 1964 at the old Grand Banks facility in Hong Kong. Their popularity was soon well-established in the U.S. market, and the original 32-, 36-, and 42-foot designs were soon followed by a series of successful DeFever-designed “Alaskan” displacement trawlers (also wood) from 45 to 55 feet in length. Operations were relocated to Singapore in 1968, and the company made the switch to fiberglass production in 1973. Grand Banks has long been considered the benchmark builder when it comes to high quality production trawlers, and in recent years its series of Downeast styled Eastbay cruisers have become so successful that they now comprise most of the boats built by Grand Banks. Now built in Singapore and Malaysia, used Grand Banks boats are nearly always in demand on the secondary markets.
