Description

Bayliner was a tiny Arlington, Washington, builder of runabouts when Orin Edson purchased the operation in 1965. Under his leadership the company established efficient, assembly-line production methods that enabled Bayliner to offer its products at prices other manufacturers were unable to match. Beginning as a regional builder, by the mid 1980s Bayliner had grown to become the largest builder of pleasure boats in America. The company was purchased in 1986 by Brunswick Corp. Bayliner products have always been known for their affordable prices, although the company’s quality-control standards were the subject of controversy some years ago. Once the largest builder of production boats in the world, in 2000 Brunswick turned Bayliner’s series of fishing boats into a separate company (Trophy Sportfishing Boats), and in 2002 Bayliner’s large cruising yachts were spun off to create Meridian Yachts. Today’s Bayliner concentrates on a full line of runabouts and cruisers from 17 to 33 feet in length.
