She is a converted Ice Class ex push pull twin screw tug, originally built to Lloyds +A1class for ESSO, working the Norwegian coast line.. This tug was owned by Esso Norway. In view of her strong construction and deep sea going qualities she is capable of serving a variable market outside the scope and potential of the average private yacht. The growing requirement and desire by certain clients to enjoy the safety and comfort of such a vessel makes her unique in the field of luxury marine transport. Ideal for adventure and discovery exploration and research voyages, as well the traditional luxury market can be catered for .
She has undergone a substantial rebuild with modifications done and is now suitable for a owner to put an interior tailored to there own requirements

Her original manning requirements for up to 14 crew were all comfortably housed in main deck or lower crew accommodation. Substantial insulation (rock wool or similar) and pine wood cladding ensured that the vessel stayed warm and comfortable. Most of this still exists today in good condition. A small amount of asbestos from the engine room was removed and she is free of such products.
She was dry-docked in 2002. Hull inspection proved that no plating needed changing, a relatively clean bill of health was given. The shafts were withdrawn and all six rudders. (Yes Six Rudders) removed. Two big main rudders serve aft of the props. Four smaller flank rudders were positioned forward of the props. In the wheelhouse American Mississippi type steering bars replaced the traditional wheel. This arrangement enabled the helmsman to steer, and or cross rudder directions, in order to turn rapidly. The system was removed and replaced by traditional wheel. The four-flank rudders were removed, being unnecessary for current needs. All prop shaft, rudder bearings and oil bath seals were replaced, and repairs to the rudder shafts were undertaken. She was later towed across to Northern France where she was loaded onto a dock ship and transported to Toulon Southern France. She was then towed to a shipyard facility and is laid up ashore since 2005. The refit program continues.

She was chosen for the challenge she offered, Her sturdy girth and business like structure likened her to a sea going retreat unlike any other type of pleasure and commercial vessel normally seen on the Oceans. Thus came our idea to transform her and keep the Authentic Classic boat feel. The spacious cabin and living areas will offer comfortable living on long voyages, whilst enjoying her safe and strong go anywhere, seagoing ability.
The unusually spacious sun deck area is ideal for barbeques and an observation platform. A Sauna could be comfortably placed in the funnel.

The idea developed that She could be made available for charter. Short Cruises, or a World Cruise were discussed. Courses held on healthy cooking and eating, living and reaping the benefits of organic and natural products, fresh fish and plenty of sea air making the project more exciting. Scientific Research, Ocean Research, Adventure trips etc are also high on the list. She is an Ice Navigation Capable Vessel. This inherent quality is an added bonus and an important consideration.

She has some very useful design characteristics that make her unusual and helpful in certain types of employment. For instance, she has big deck and interior volume for a 27mtr vessel, offering the equivalent space of a standard 35mtr vessel. Her Guest cabins are on the main deck giving a feeling of openness and space with plenty of light and views. Her aft ballast tanks could be converted to a workshop, cabin or laboratory etc. The sun deck could accept a helicopter and offers a large observation platform. Her engine room space compares to a small commercial ships. Plenty of room to walk around and work. The crew's quarters are spacious enough and the steering flat leaves plenty of room for storage.

She is unusually economic as Tugs go, and unlike most Tug power packs She is powered by two Lister Blackstone low revving engines. These engines are still used in many applications and particularly in the British fishing fleet. Spares are readily available and reasonably priced. Her large twin screws make her very manoeuvrable; the safety facture of twin screw on long voyages is important. 700 RPM twin engine cruising gives around 10 to 12 knts. Or single engine cruising economically gives around 8 knots at 700-rpm max. The very big rudders offer ease of course keeping. Consumption would be around 60 litres per hour per engine. She is a very economical vessel to operate.

The vessel was completely stripped, starting with the accommodation, eng room piping, electrics, then wooden decks were removed, hull and superstructure grit blasted, bronze windows removed and polished, capstan removed and hydraulic steering dismantled.

The amount of grease and oil removed proved to be a Marathon Task. However this grease protected the Vessels steel plates over the years, original painted markings on the engine room bilge frames was found.
The Engine's rebuild took some time and was undertaken by an ex LISTER BLACKSTONE fitter. Main engines were stripped to the crankshaft, parts were replaced and the engines were gradually rebuilt in situation. A full written report was established. Only a small amount of finishing works remains, the heavy works are over.

Spares are abundant and reasonably priced. MAN Group has an involvement in the supply.
She is fitted with the early model main engines (non-turbo charged). They are very trustworthy and still in use in Fishing fleets and heavy-duty Worldwide applications.

The gearboxes are standard Ahead and Astern commanded by modern electronic telegraph.
The reduction is three to one giving max 250 RPM at the prop.
A Trailing pump is incorporated for single engine cruising.

The Generator Alternators were rebuilt and two new Perkins 1500-rpm engines fitted.

The Steering hydraulics was inspected and where required parts replaced. Ram oil seals were fabricated and fitted.

Fire alarm cables and new lighting, power points phone and television wires were laid.
24-volt deck head spots were fitted throughout, the intention being to run silent ship at anchor at night. General service batteries will ensure the minimum required power.
The mast was redesigned and built to take the new equipment including Sea Tel.

The new accommodation bulkheads were built in steel to new interior design, stairways were fitted and insulation replaced where required. Structural modifications drawn up by Naval Architects were implemented. A Captains cabin was added, a boat deck toilet and bridge access, and boat deck extension was also achieved creating a new main deck saloon and extra deck area. The funnel was also heightened and the mast modified and strengthened. The bronze windows were polished placed in position. All weather doors were rebuilt and fitted.

This refit has been conducted in consideration that the vessel will be used for commercial charter, rugged and simple cruising.

The British Marine authority MCA recently undertook inspection of the vessel.
The MCA reported favourably on the potential rating (non-restricted cruising). It was noted in their report the extent of the refit and the accessibility of engine room and working spaces. Watertight doors have been fitted, this has reduced engine room volume and creates a laundry and stores area.
A positive response was obtained from Nordska Veritas who would consider returning the
Vessel to Class through the small boat code.

RINA Classification Society has been engaged in view of the lower costs and satisfactory outcome of discussions.

A recent and acceptable Hull shell plate sounding report was established and presented to RINA.

Baltic is offered for sale due to the changing family conditions and requirements. She will make an ideal home and offer cruising access not normally achievable for other motor vessels of this size and category.

• Remove and replace Anchor windlass (Owners Supply)
•  Fit aft Capstan (Owners Supply)
• Fit Forward boat crane (Owners supply),

Area Interior

• Wire Engine room to MCA/ RINA requirements. (Owner Equipment supply)
•  Pipe Engine room and Bilge compartments to MCA/RINA requirements.
• Galvanised mild steel, Seawater. Other for Fresh water and Fuel (Yard supply).
• Supply and fit Fire main to MCA/RINA requirements.
• Sand blast Fwd ballast tank SA2.5 repair where required and paint.
• Fit crew quarters and Galley area to Owners design.
• Complete fitting out of Owners/Guest Interior space and Bridge to Owners design.
